Chris received the 2016 ATHENA award from the Lebanon Valley Chamber in recognition of her professional excellence, community service, and leadership.Ĭhris has lived in Palmyra for over 30 years with her husband John. She is actively involved in the Lebanon County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, as well as advocating for seniors in various capacities. Joan of Arc Church where she was a parishioner for over 45 years. She is a devout Catholic and is looking forward to a trip to visit St. Natalie’s hobbies are going out to lunch, watching Wheel of Fortune and golf. She loves to face-time with her grandchildren when her daughter comes to visit. Natalie’s life has always revolved around her family.
She’s undecided as to what type of doctor. She raised Natalie’s first granddaughter who is named after her grandmother and is in her second year of medical school in Chicago, studying to be a doctor. Her daughter, who lives in Hershey, is a retired corporate communicator and interior designer.
She also has a son in Germany who is a web designer and has lived there for over 20 years. Her one son is an engineer in New Jersey with a wife and two of her grandchildren, a girl in high school and boy in his first year of college. She has spent the last 20 years seeing her family grow. They were married 50 years before he passed away 20 years ago. She smiles when she says she followed him with kids in tow, moving every two years throughout the country. In fact, he told her that first day that he was going to marry her! She spent 27 years by her husband’s side in the military, although he was out to sea nine months out of the year. Natalie was a Dental Assistant until she met her husband Daniel, which she met at a dance that her friends talked her into going to. Natalie Shovlin never tells her age but mostly identifies herself as a retired Navy wife. And no one could make a better strudel than Eva! They also owned a few apartment buildings, so when the garage closed for the day there was always more work to do somewhere.Įva worked hard her whole life but found one pleasure she enjoyed. In 1972 her husband started an automotive repair garage and Eva quit her job to run and manage the office. They became naturalized citizens in 1959 and were so very proud. Eventually they saved enough money to buy a house. came over and Eva and Hans were married a month later.ĭuring the day Eva worked as a seamstress and in the evening, they cleaned an office building until midnight. Thus, their only child, Hans Jr., was born in late 1951 and because of that Hans Sr. Unfortunately, Hans could not get a visa because of his duty in the German Army. Then Eva’s family decided to move to America because their father had a sister in Harrisburg, PA.Įva’s family came to the USA in 1951. They fell in love and dated for a few years. While in Austria, she met Hans Lang who had recently from duty in the German Army and was searching for his family who also had fled Romania.
In Austria, Eva worked as a cook for a well to do Austrian family. Their journey took them by foot from Romania to Austria. Her family decided to flee the Russians’, so they packed up their belongings and loaded them onto a horse pulled wagon and left. As the Russians came into her village, Eva witnessed some terrible atrocities as a teen girl. In 1943 Russia started to push back against the German Army and started to conquer Romania. Then the World War II broke out and Romania was taken over by Germany. As a young child Eva and her sister worked on the farm growing vegetables and tending to the animals. Her father was a carpenter and they had a small farm. Although being born in Romania, her family were Danube-Schwab, which are German descendants that migrated down the Danube River looking for farmlands to settle. Eva was born in 1927 in a small village called Liebling in Romania.
